This is a page for a fat book or a chunky book, designed for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind.
A “fat book” or “chunky book” is a mini book that is 4 x 4 inches square.
The theme for this one was “autumn”.
I used black card stock as the base. I stamped the image and heat embossed using a watermark ink and bronze embossing powder.
I added some colour with marking pencils.
Lastly, I used doubled sided tape to glue a selection of tiny beads around the border of the page. I used gold, red and clear colored beads.

This is a page for a chunky book or a fat book, as some call it, or a 4 x 4 art card as others like to say.
The card is made for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind. We were told to use any color we wanted, and the theme was Surprise.”
Looks like I missed the theme because there is nothing here that represents a surprise. Sigh.
However, I made the background using various papers that I had created using tissue paper and paint. I added some red mesh, and a small picture postcard that an artist friend from Switzerland sent to me. It shows a young girl against an alpine background.
I decorated with various purchased flowers and some amber colored beads that went well with the colors in the image.
I rather like this card even though I missed the theme.

This is a 4 x 4 art card (or page for a fat book) that I made. I made it for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind. The color to use was orange, and the theme was “magic”. Hence, we have an orange unicorn.
I made the orange and cream background in Photoshop Elements and printed it out. The text, also digitally created, reads, “Nothing is more magical than the unicorn”.
I printed out the unicorn from clipart found at Graphics Fairy Blogspot.
I added Orange Fun Flock for texture on the bottom, and glued orange beads in place for the necklace. The tail is made from orange fibre.
The flower is a purchased die cut.
I blocked the whole thing on orange cardstock.
I am fond of unicorns.

This 4 x 4 art card is also made to be included in a fat book or chunky book. It is also made for a swap at the Yahoo group known as Art for the Creative Mind. The color was to be purple, and the theme is grace.
I used a piece of purple card stock for the bottom layer, then added a second layer or purple scrapbook paper. I printed out the image of the vintage lady in a hat from the computer and blocked it with both the paper and the card stock. Prior to printing, I used Adobe Photoshop Elements to add the words “Courage is Grace Under Pressure.” The image is courtesy of Graphics Fairy Blog.
I used a die to cut the treelike shape, and added some diamond colored glitter glue for emphasis. The purple flower in the upper right corner is a brad.

This 4 x 4 art card is intended as an addition to a fat book or chunky book. I made it for a Swap at Art for the Creative Mind. The theme was “strong” and the color was to be gold.
I started with a 4 x 4 piece of gold scrapbook paper, and layered that with gold and white designed scrapbook paper.
I used a piece of thin gold metal and embossed it using the Big Shot and an embossing folder.
I then used the Big Shot to cut out the Tim Holtz rosette die and made the rosette that appears in the upper left side.
Since the theme was strong, I used a quote found on the Internet and applied it manually using a Micron Pen.
The text reads, “It is in herself that she will find the strength she needs…”

This is a four by four page for a fat book or a chunky book. In the swap group that I belong to, we are calling them art cards, and there is a monthly theme.
This month, the card was to be copper in color, and the theme was wisdom.
I used some copper metallic paper for the background, then layered some copper mesh over it as shown.
The owl is cut from an advertisement. Wisdom as a theme seems to call for a wise old owl.
I had some copper metallic tags in my stash. I dry embossed one by hand, using a brass stencil and a hand held embossing stylus. I also had some copper star shaped brads, so I used them as well.
The words “social wisdom” appeared on a flyer of some sort, and it was talking about using wisdom in social media. I thought it apropos.
The swap group is Art for the Creative Mind.

This is another project for a Fat Book. A Fat Book, also called a chunky book, consists of pages that are 4″ by 4″.
The theme was to make a green page that had Spring as the theme.
I colored the background green using Dylusions Spray Ink, Dirty Martini color. I added a touch of blue spray in spots for contrast.
The burst is made from modeling paste, Liquidex brand, and a brass stencil. This image reminds me of spring bursting forth, so I printed those three words in black ink at the bottom of the page.
This page is made for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind, a Yahoo swap group in which I participate.

This project is a page for a fat book or chunky book. These books are 4″ by 4″s.
Since this was made for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind, there was a specific technique and theme. We were to use blue crackle for the technique and the theme was allure.
I began with navy blue card stock, then painted it with crackle medium. When the crackle was partially dry, I painted over with white paint.
The result reminded me of a snow storm or blizzard. I made this during the time that much of eastern North America was experiencing the worst snow storms in years, so perhaps that is why it brought a snow storm to mind.
How to make a snow storm alluring? By adding a beautiful ballerina dancer, of course.
The dancer is a die cut. I covered the black card stock with double sided sticky tape and then ran it through the Big Shot die cutting and embossing machine. I used black micro beads to cover the dancer and then glued the dancer onto the page as shown.
To add a touch of warmer color, I glued in place a small red-borderd strip of text, which reads “Speak Without Words.”

My swap group, Art for the Creative Mind, is planning a year long project in which we exchange page for a “fat book” or chunky book.
Fat books or chunky books are books that are four inches by four inches square.
I actually made this book cover a few months back. It is made from a jigsaw puzzle. I painted over the front with a gel medium. When dry, I turned the completed jigsaw upside down, and then glued white card stock on the back.
I cut this into the appropriate size for my fat book covers, and punched a hole in the corner. I will use a binder ring to hold things in place.
The theme is “Many Colours”. I thought the colours on this jigsaw made it appropriate.

These are two a 4 x 4 art cards made for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind.
We were instructed to splotches and splatters on the background and to use doodling for the picture.
I used alcohol ink on the background, I forget the name of the technique. Do they call it stone dying or something? Anyhow, its alcohol ink smooched around and then mixed more with the blender.
I examined my splotches and decided that I saw a puppy in the one on the left and a potato-head girl in the one on the right.
I used a black sharpie to emphasize the shapes that I saw. I wrote, “You go girl” in one of the “potatoes’ in the right hand card.
I backed both 4 x 4s on black card stock.
