artist trading card with winter picture This is an artist trading card (ATC) themed Winter Vacation.  I made it for a swap at the online art group called Art for the Creative Mind.  You anyone is interested in the group, the address is

For the background, I went with the polished stone effect, made with alcohol inks on a glossy paper.

I used black ink and what I thought was an appropriately themed stamp called Clapboard Houses from The Old Island Stamp Company.

The ATC is mounted on sturdy green cardstock.

artist trading card with cat and big red eyes This is an artist trading card (ATC) made for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind.

The ATC’s theme was to be “the eyes have it”.

I had a rubber stamp with the cat shape that is shown. I stamped the car on light card board and heat embossed with pewter colored embossing powder.

Next, I glued small seed beads along the edges of the cat. I added some glitter glue where I thought it might look good.

Finally, in keeping with the theme, I glued large red rhinestone beads to form the cats eyes.
The background of the ATC is a lovely velvet fabric, given to me by a friend who sews.

I had some red and gold mesh fabric that looked good with the purple velvet, and also matched the cat’s red eyes.

The ATC is on its way to its new owner.

artist trading card in magenta showing a burst of colour This magenta-colored ATC is another artist trading card made for an ongoing swap at Art Ventures, a Yahoo swap group.

The challenge was to make an artist trading card showing how the colour magenta made us FEEL. I decided that magenta made me feel excited.

I used watercolour paper and coloured it magenta using Dylusions Magenta Spray Ink.  I seriously love Dylusions sprays.

When the background was dry, I used a brass stencil and Liquidex modeling paste to create the bursting shape with hearts around the outside. I didn’t add any additional color the stenciled shape, but much of the magenta showed through in what I thought was a pleasing display of color.

I found an appropriately colored paper flower in my stash and added it at the bottom as shown.

I like this effect quite a lot. The stencil shape is remarkable, I think.

artist trading card in coral color showing cat made from a stencil This Artist Trading Card shows a cat made from a brass stencil and modeling paste.

I started with beige colored card stock.

After making the cat with stencil and paste, and allowing it to dry, I colored the cat shape in seal point colors, using watercolor crayons.  I put a blue bead on the cat’s head to represent a blue eye.

This ATC is made for a swap at Art Ventures. The goal was to create a card in beige, showing how the color beige makes us FEEL.

For whatever reason, I found that the color beige made me nostalgic for my beloved ragdoll cat who died of cancer a few months ago. He was a long haired seal point ragdoll, but the stencil is clearly a short haired cat. Close enough. It still honours my old feline friend.

I finished by stamping some vees representing birds flying on top, and on the bottom, I stamped some blades of grass, and I darkened the borders using a darker tan colour.

artist trading card in fuchia color showing stenciled tree This artist trading card is done in the colour fuschia. I created the background color using watercolor crayons on watercolor paper.

To make the tree, I used a brass stencil and Liquidex modeling paste. I sprinkled microfine fuschia colored glitter over the wet paste, before removing the stencil.

I ran a darker color fuscia (stamping ink) around the border.

Lastly, I punched two small holes in the bottom of the ATC and strung the white and fuscia colored cord through as shown.

This artist trading card is intended for a swap at the Yahoo group known as Art Ventures.

The idea for this swap was to created an ATC showing how fuscia makes us feel. I decided that fuscia makes me fee in awe, or awed.

artist trading card in coral color showing teapot and cup made form stencil This Artist Trading Card (ATC) is made for an ongoing swap at Art Ventures. Every month, we make an ATC in a specified colour. The image is supposed to reflect how that colour makes us feel.

I decided that coral makes me feel sociable.

First, I used watercolor crayons to create the coral colour on the background paper. I used watercolor paper for the backing.

After coloring the background coral and letting it dry, I used a brass stencil to create the teapot, cup and the word TEA. I used a marking pencil in an appropriate color to do the stencil.

The teapot makes me think of inviting friends for a sociable afternoon tea.

I lightly darkened the borders of the ABC with a deeper coral colour.

Artist trading card in vermillion colors showing drawn cartoon image of a frazzled woman This vermillion colored artist trading card features a hand drawn and painted cartoon image of a frazzled woman.

I made this ATC for a swap at an online swap group called Art Ventures. The goal was to create a vermillion colored card that would depict how vermillion makes me feel.

I decided that vermillion makes me feel frazzled. I was in the mood to draw and paint a cartoon figure, so this is what I did.

I drew the figure with graphite pencil and painted her with acrylic paints.

There is a layer of collage underneath the painting, to give it texture.

I wrote the word Frazzled using a black Sharpie.

Artist trading card in silver colors This artist trading card (ATC) is called Silver Simplicity.

I made it for a monthly swap at Art Ventures. The challenge was to make a card using predominantly silver colours, and to depict how silver makes me feel.

I decided that Silver gives me a sense of simplicity, so I attempted to depict that feeling.

I have used two types of embossing on silver colored card stock.

The embossing to the left is dry embossing, done with an embossing folder and the Big Shot Universal Die Cutting and Embossing Machine.

The flower to the right is a stamped image heat embossed with silver embossing powder.

I added a little silver embossing powder around the edges of the card as well.

Artist trading card in brown colors with picture of mushroom As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I belong to Art Ventures, an online swap group that has been trading ATCs (artist trading cards) on a monthly basis. We are currently doing ATCs in a monthly colour. The goal is to produce a card that depicts how the Color of the Month makes us feel.

This card was themed Brown, and I decided that brown makes me feel earthy.

I located a picture of a mushroom at Graphics Fairy, a site that offers free clipart and other images.

I blocked the mushroom photo on various types of brown paper and included a strip of text, that spoke to me at the time.

The text reads, “What you give you get, ten times over“.

I rather like this monochromatic brown ATC.

Artist trading card in amber colors I belong to an online group that has operated a monthly ATC swap. ATC stands for artist trading cards. Every month in this swap, there is a different color theme. Our goal is to create an ATC using that particular colour, but we must depict how that colour makes us feel.

The ATC colour for this particular month was amber. I decided that amber makes me feel watchful.

The card to the left is my offering. It is a bit weird, but that’s okay. I like weird.

I made the background using a technique that was supposed to be crackle created with paint and glue. I did not get a very good result, crackle-wise, but I thought what did happen was interesting enough to use.

I printed the eye from the computer, using free-to-use clipart from Graphics Fairy. I added the word Watchful in Photoshop Elements.

The amber colored sticker is something I found in my stash and I thought it worked.
