front of altered cd case with pen and nib

These pictures show the front, back and inside of an altered CD case that I made for Art for the Creative Mind Swap Group. The theme was My Diary.

The case is made of clear plastic, so I took advantage of that by using the front as a window.  I placed a strip of hand crocheted lace along the inside border of the outer cover. I affixed an old fashioned nib pen on the front, tied with organza ribbon  in a pale yellow colour.

Inside, I decorated a CD with scrapbook paper covered with a gel image transfer, and a stamped image of a clock. I nestled the CD on a bed of eyelet lace.

The words, “My Diary” are cut with a Cricut and the Jasmine font.

On the back of the CD, I have embedded more scrapbook paper and a stamped image reading, “Remember”.  The eyelet lace is clearly visible from the back.

The CD case is in the hands of my swap partner now.

atcs with kissing man and woman The theme of these two ATCs is “Hopelessly Romantic”. I did them for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind.

The “lace” is dry embossing done with a border design embossing folder.

The kissing man and woman are die cuts made on the Cricut. The cartridge I used is the Cricut Victorian Romance Cartridge.

I finished by adding a few small pearl beads to the woman’s hair and the man’s collar.

The text is stamped. One card reads, “kiss”, and the other reads, “love”.

The cards are good for Valentine Day.

valentine card designed for Playing in Paradise Challenge #101 Last week, I was the lucky winner of Challenge Number 99 at Playing in Paradise. In addition to receiving a great prize, I was also invited to design a card for Challenge Number 101. The theme for #101 is Glimmer Mist. We were to use any kind of mist in our project.

I used  two shades of glimmer mist to bring new life to some old pink flowers that have been in my stash for years.

The Victorian lady and the text, “Be My Valentine” are cut with the Cricut using this cartridge: Cricut Victorian Romance Cartridge

I blocked the card on two colors of card stock — white and rose, and used a pale pink card stock for the card itself.
A few pearls in the flowers and in the lady’s hair complete the card.

Thanks to the good people at Playing in Paradise for invite me to participate.

christmas card with die cut angel This Christmas card features a holiday ornament with a die cut angel.

I cut the ornament and angel using the Cricut and the Joys of the Season cartridge.

I backed the angel cut with double sided sticky tape and sprinkled with blue glitter.

The background is embossed using the Big Shot and an embossing folder.

I layered the white on white over dark blue card stock and added a ribbon and some brads for decoration.

Seasons Greetings is a peel away sticker.

child's christmas card
child's christmas card

It’s a bit late to be posting Christmas cards, but oh well, what can I say? I am a slacker from time to time.

Anyways, I made these two kid’s Christmas cards for my friend’s grandchildren.

The boy gets the train one and the girl gets the other with the rocking horse.

Both of the die cuts are made using the Cricut and the Joys of the Season cartridge.

I put double sided sticky tape behind the cut outs and then sprinkled with clear glitter.

The green card is dry embossed using the Big Shot and an embossing folder.

The “rick rack” is cut using a Bigz die and the Big Shot. I used glittery chip board to make the die cuts.

Merry Christmas is a gold peel away sticker.

postcard with jingle bells theme This postcard represents a “Kindness Swap” at Art for the Creative Mind Swap Group. The list owner declared that December is kindness month and invited us to send a postcard to another member, of our choosing.

I choose two people and sent two post cards.

I cut the post card out of light card board, making it regulation size.

I used  Hero Arts Jingle Bells stamp to do the background. I colored the stamp with Marvy Markers.

The ornament and angel is a die cut made with the Cricut. I used the Joys of the Season Cartridge and filled in the cut space with red glitter.

I marked around the edges with the same red and green markers that I used for the stamping.

ladies dancing vintage white tag
lords a leaping vintage white tag

I made these two Christmas or holiday tags for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind. The theme was “vintage white”.

I cut the big tags using the Personal Cricut Electronic Die Cutting Tool. The cartridge was Cricut Cartidge, Joys of the Season.  Joys of the Season has dies representing the 12 Days of Christmas, plus several others.

After cutting the big tags, I ran them through the Big Shot, using Cuttlebug embossing folders. Then I rubbed the raised parts with Old Paper distressed ink by Ranger Industries.

I affixed double sided tape on the back of each cut shape, and then sprinkled with glitter.  I backed the tags on off-white card stock.

I added the text, also die cut with the Cricut, for ladies dancing and lords-a-leaping.

I cut the small tags using a punch, dry embossed, and glued on the die cut shapes that had been cut out of the big tags.

Finally, I glued on vintage lace at the bottom and added a tie of sheer organza ribbon at the top. I used a different color cord to tie the little tags to the big tags.

christmas card with center fold This Christmas card is made with a simple center fold.  It doesn’t show well here, but the card stands up and opens up quite nicely.

I used brown  card stock trimmed with scrapbook paper from my stash. I  sponged distress ink along the borders.

The Two Calling Birds are die cuts, made with the Cricut using the Joys of the Season cartridge. It’s available here: Cricut Cartidge, Joys of the Season

I added a white eyelet at the top for an added embellishment.

I entered this card in Playing in Paradise Challenge Number 96.

CD album, front and back
CD album, front
CD album, fanning open

I made this small CD mini album as a Christmas gift for a friend. Essentially, it is a small, hand made scrapbook with accordion hinges for binding and covered CDs for the layouts. Since I have altered CDs, this project is also considered altered art, I suppose.

I have made CD albums many times, but this is the first one I have done designed with Christmas or winter holidays in mind.

The layouts contain photographs and are decorated with die cuts made using the Cricut Expression 2 Electric Cutting Machine .

The cartridge is Cricut Cartidge, Joys of the Season.

On the back, I made two die cuts representing Ladies Dancing. The ladies are from the Joys of the Season cartridge.

On the front, to represent  Lords a Leaping, I used a die from Memory Box.

Other miscellaneous trim include stickers, ribbon and of course, scrapbook paper.

I have entered this project in the Playing in Paradise Challenge #93.

doves of peace advent calendar
close up of top of doves of peace advent calendar

This Doves of Peace Advent Calendar is designed for an adult. Also known as a countdown calendar, the project is a swap at Art for the Creative Mind.

The bottom picture shows a closeup of the calender’s top.

I made the calendar using olive green card stock. It is approximately 20 inches long and 12 inches wide.

The envelopes are cut from gold card stock, using a template I found at this link: Free Template Maker.

Each envelope is decorated with an image cut from vintage scrapbook paper.  I cut a small square for each envelope and used a black Sharpie marker to hand write a number, one to twenty-five.

Each envelope contains an inspirational message that can be removed and used in a project, if desired.

For trim, I used burlap aper decorated with green “rick-rack” cut with a die cut.

To make the doves, the bird cage and the word “peace”, I used the Cricut and the Cricut Joys of the Season Cartridge – Not in Plastic Shell.

I purchased the green and burlap flowers that I have attached at the upper left side.

So the recipient can hang the calendar if she chooses, I attached some burlap colored fabric for hanging.

The final touch is a snow flake from Tim Holtz’s stuff.
