christmas card made with Graphic 45 Nutcracker Suite papers

christmas card made with Graphic 45 Nutcracker Suite papers

I know its late, but these are a few of the Christmas cards or holiday cards that I made for the winter holiday in 2015.

I used some Nutcracker Suite papers from Graphic 45. I had had the papers on hand for a couple of years with the intention of making a mini album. However, I decided that I should probably use them rather than hoard them.

I also used card stock, ribbon, some clipart images printed out on the computer, and I decorated the cards a bit with glitter glue.

I made about half a dozen.

art postcard with raised letter V My online swap group, Art for the Creative Mind, is doing an ongoing postcard swap. Each month, we do a postcard with a raised letter of the alphabet. At the end of the year, we should have postcards that spell out CREATIVE MIND.

This particular postcard featured the letter V.

I stamped the lion face and colored it using stamps and markers from Local King Rubber Stamp Company.

Iblocked the lion and affixed it to a layered background comprised of card stock and scrapbook paper. I cut the purple label using a die and the Big Shot, and cut flowers from an extra scrap of scrapbook paper.

The letter V is a silver charm from my swap. I attached it using a silver brad.

I stamped the words VICTORY and glued them in place along the bottom edge of the postcard.

4 x 4 art card with purple color theme and picture of vintage lady This 4 x 4 art card is also made to be included in a fat book or chunky book. It is also made for a swap at the Yahoo group known as Art for the Creative Mind. The color was to be purple, and the theme is grace.

I used a piece of purple card stock for the bottom layer, then added a second layer or purple scrapbook paper. I printed out the image of the vintage lady in a hat from the computer and blocked it with both the paper and the card stock. Prior to printing, I used Adobe Photoshop Elements to add the words “Courage is Grace Under Pressure.” The image is courtesy of Graphics Fairy Blog.

I used a die to cut the treelike shape, and added some diamond colored glitter glue for emphasis. The purple flower in the upper right corner is a brad.

4 x 4 art card with gold embossing and a gold rosette This 4 x 4 art card is intended as an addition to a fat book or chunky book. I made it for a Swap at Art for the Creative Mind. The theme was “strong” and the color was to be gold.

I started with a 4 x 4 piece of gold scrapbook paper, and layered that with gold and white designed scrapbook paper.

I used a piece of thin gold metal and embossed it using the Big Shot and an embossing folder.

I then used the Big Shot to cut out the Tim Holtz rosette die and made the rosette that appears in the upper left side.

Since the theme was strong, I used a quote found on the Internet and applied it manually using a Micron Pen.

The text reads, “It is in herself that she will find the strength she needs…”

art postcard with raised letter T This art postcard is for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind. The instructions were to make a postcard with a raised letter T.

I had a nice teal colored background that someone sent me as a RAK (Random Act of Kindness). On top of this, I layered a tag that I made and decorated with alcohol inks.

I stamped an image of vintage clocks on the tag using black archival ink.

I found the raised T in my stash. Its a sticker.

I stamped the words to read Take Time. I cut the words “for the love of art” from a sheet of scrapbook paper.

The final touches involved adding a silver eyelet to the tag and gluing two lengths of cream colored lace along the width of the tab, top and bottom.

We are exchanging postcards that at the end of the year, will spell out CREATIVE MIND in raised letters.

copper colored art card with owl This is a four by four page for a fat book or a chunky book. In the swap group that I belong to, we are calling them art cards, and there is a monthly theme.

This month, the card was to be copper in color, and the theme was wisdom.

I used some copper metallic paper for the background, then layered some copper mesh over it as shown.

The owl is cut from an advertisement. Wisdom as a theme seems to call for a wise old owl.

I had some copper metallic tags in my stash. I dry embossed one by hand, using a brass stencil and a hand held embossing stylus.  I also had some copper star shaped brads, so I used them as well.

The words “social wisdom” appeared on a flyer of some sort, and it was talking about using wisdom in social media. I thought it apropos.

The swap group is Art for the Creative Mind.

romantic card with a doily, hearts and flowers This greeting card features a lace doily, hearts and flowers.  I made it for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind.

The background is dry embossed with  small flowers. It is an embossing folder used with the Sizzix.

I used a doily, punched shapes and free drawn shapes to form a large flower as the central point in this card.

The doily is a lace doily, given to me as a RAK by someone in our swap group.

I cut the hearts using a small heart-shaped punch.

I made the stem and leaves by hand. The leaves are covered with green microbeads. The flower’s center has pink and clear microbeads as well.

It would do very well for Valentine’s Day.

card themed Royal Cameo, with a TP mold I made this card for a swap at Art for the Creative Mind. The theme was Royal Cameo, and we were to use a TP (toilet paper) mold.

Sometimes I don’t feel like taking a serious approach to this stuff.

This is one of those times.

In case you have never played poker, the playing cards comprise a royal flush. This takes care of the Royal part of the requirement.

I used a tp mold to make the cameo. To do so, I bought large cameo embellishment at Michaels. I made a mold from it using Rangers Mold -n- Pour.

Mold -n-Pour is an easy product to use and it can make some great molds. You get two containers of goo. You mix equal amounts together and then squash it over top of the button or other item that you want to mold. Once mixed together, the product sets quickly and you use it as you would use any mold.It is flexible, so you can remove your molded item easily. In addition to toilet paper molds, I have made molds using Polymer Clay from this product. Amazon has it here: Ranger Melt Art Mold-n-Pour, 1.5-Ounce each, 2-Pack

Back to the card. I attached some rhinestone beads around the outside of the TP mold, and I happened to have some little embellishments in the shape of heart, diamond, club and spade. This worked well.

The first piece of text reads, “Don’t tell me, show me”, which I figure is a good message for a poker theme. The second text reads, “Greater than the sum of its parts” — which is surely true of a royal flush. LOL

Its a weird card, but I like it.

birthday card with stamped and colored image of a brown bird
birthday card with stamped and colored image of a pink bird
birthday card with stamped and colored image of a yellow bird

At Christmas, my friend gave me a selection of stamping products from Local King, a local stamping store here in North Vancouver. They have a web presence but not a store front.

The first technique demonstrated in the enclosed video tutorial was called Stamping with Markers.

You use shadow stamps and added color to the stamps using markers. For the bird shown, the instructions said to use a lighter color and a darker color, such as light tan and a darker brown. Also, a red marker and a black marker. You apply the colour working from lighter colour to darker, and then stamp on glossy paper.

The results are lovely. After stamping the bird, we stamped with a background Word stamp, using a lighter shade of brown or tan.

Next, we stamped the leaf in the same way, using green and black markers.

Next, we used black dye ink to stamp a sentiment, and finally, we tied a strip of raffia around the stamped image before affixing it to the layers of background.

I forgot to add the raffia on the top picture, but I added it on the bottom two.

In the brown bird card, top, we used another background stamp for the blocked background.  In the yellow and pink card, I used some scrapbook paper rather than a stamped image.  I messed up somewhat on the yellow card by putting the background paper in the wrong direction.

So far, I have made six of these cards, all in different colour schemes.

There are other techniques on the video, which I will be trying soon.

In the meantime, here is the video demo of the marker technique:

kids easter card This is one of the two Easter cards that I made for a kid this year.

The bunnies and chicks are stamped with an acrylic stamp and colored with Copic Markers.

The small photo corners are stickers.

I cut the borders and frames using Nestability dies from Spellbinders.

The yellow and red card stock is left over from some other project.
