I made this artist trading card for a swap at Art Ventures swap group. The theme was to make a card in all white, and the card was to depict how white makes us feel.
For whatever reason, perhaps because I have recently lost a family member, white makes me think of grief. I know that in some cultures, white does represent grief, so perhaps it feels that way to many people.
It is not easy to make an ATC using nothing but white. White does not come in “shades” like most colours. Off-white is a different colour, not to be used for this swap. We will do off-white next.
In any case, the card contains white card stock, white lace, white chiffon ribbon, white eyelets, white heat embossing and the word grief spelled out with white stickers. The card doesn’t look like much, but a lot of work went into it.
It looks rather stark and cold — and that is how grief feels to me.
